Knock Knock!

Reality check!!

How important do you think your idols are in your life? Well, I know your answer, because…same! They are a part of my life!

There are stages which we pass when we become someone’s fan. From knowing everything about the idol, to falling for them, to thinking day and night about them, to actually start dreaming about them…

And here, we are talking about KPoppies. ‘N’ Number of talented idols, highly addictive music, their dedicated fandoms, solo stans, anti- stans, and everyone possible.

Losing sleep and kpop being 24*7 on your mind is common, but I’ve wasted precious time over things that didn’t matter to me. And what I see other fans doing these days is way too serious than we think. This simple addiktion has taken a toll over us.

Fans quarreling and supporting their idols even when they are wrong... or in some popular cases, committed crimes, is not a thing you should be proud of. And opinionating on every single thing your idol does, cancelling them on matters that will not affect you in the least possible way, and all such controversies. This is not the addiction we want!!

These so called fans lose their peace of mind and make other lose it too. Not to be surprised, but these are actually people with thousands of followers on social media and this often has a propensity to influence fans to think their way. Yes, thinking about good thing your idols did, some thought- provoking quotes they spoke, getting lost in their music… all these do not affect you negatively until BAMMMM!! Until you come across some negative elements.

What affects us negatively is the harsh, abusive, language you speak and hear, in this process of give and take of opinions. It has affected so many of us, that sometimes we target the idols instead of some of the toxic fans. This has tainted many idols reputation, and also of their fans, who genuinely love their work, and are truly inspired by them.

When someone drags down your culture, you don’t support them. It’s like backing them even if they have done something wrong. And it means your real life, your close ones, your culture doesn’t count because of these idols. Cultural appropriation is so common among idols and we’re often confused between what is informing and what is cancelling someone. We often forget how our actions might be hurting someone's sentiments. Moreover, instead of apologizing, we start a whole nonsensical fight.

Coming back to reality, why do people do not understand there is a life outside social media, a life outside our fandoms!! I’ve seen people saying “My idol donated this”, “My idol wrote a motivational song” while they sit on a couch all day, skip classes, make pointless and many a times, hateful comments towards others. Wake up from the blind love.

Honey, why don’t you learn something from your idols!! Stop using their achievements as yours. Yes, BTS said BTS and ARMY are one. But that doesn’t make you win the respect they get. You have to earn it, that’s what BTS did, Blackpink did, Twice did… and every other idol did. Why are you fighting over it under their comments section!? Its absurd and illogical and yet millions of us still fighting over this trivia.

Again, I’m not generalizing this for all fans, but many fans, from almost all the fandoms I’ve seen, get counted under this.

Yet another type of addiction is...

"I'm marrying my bias", "I'm shipping these two!". Doing this for humor is ok but why do you cross your limits sis? A Taekooker fighting with a Jikooker is completely unwanted and useless. It leaves me laughing that some 9 and 11 year olds using social media talking stuff they should not at their age -- marriage and sex. Kids! go study and play!!

What do I do??

You unfollow and block those toxic a*ses.

You play the music you love.

Go do your THANG.

That means you do what you love and give your 100% to it. Whether its school, study, work or art.

Filter unwanted and wanted people on social media.

Focus on what you love.

Live with complete information rather than believing in half- baked truths circulating.

Believe in yourself, and your idol. You don’t have any business with other toxic fans.

.

.

.

Why can’t the world be this simple?

Geez, I hope all of us will come out of the addiktion and enjoy KPop in its true essence.

So true.. there was a time when I was a newbie, I was getting inspired by other addicted fans who were all about 'marrying and yk' being all delusional, I honestly thought it was something cool, it was a part of being a 'fan' I thought. But I was totally wrong... I eventually realised as time passed. Now I know that's it's not necessary for me to keep 'streaming' their songs to make them win even tho ik it contributes to their views but still I doesn't matter to me now... I'll still love their work even if they don't win, even if no one supports them. I can still listen to their songs which inspires me to move forward…
